Fetish Puppies Break Free!
In 1934 Berlin, a Black Jew who is married to a White German is visited by a friend who urges him to flee the country. A screening of a German expressionistic film about a horny Golem resurrected by a Mark Zuckerberg-type “scientist” is disrupted by a visit of a man from the future.
This comedy uses anachronisms to scramble Nazi-era Germany with contemporary myths about technology, queer identity, and the cultural zeitgeist in the US following the 2016 election. It utilizes the main location of filming, the Tom of Finland House in Los Angeles, as a backdrop to obstruct the realism of the Nazi-era narrative and layer the experience of the film with BDSM queer iconography, Reality-style TV, and color 16mm footage from 1930s Berlin.
